The potential of the Android mobile platform to take a large share in the mobile apps industry has long been touted to be very huge. Some people envision it to be a credible competitor to Apple's iPhone, which has dominated the app market for a long while. However, the limited nature of paid app support in many countries has been stifling this segment, leading people in different markets to only use apps that can be downloaded freely.

Currently, paid apps are only available in a number of markets (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, UK, and US), most likely because these are the regions where the Android is most popular. However, this is soon going to change as Google has already dropped word that it is going to expand coverage for paid app support, although it didn't give an exact timeframe and it didn't even bother to inform us which markets are these.

A post in TechCrunch cited a study by paid apps analytics company Distimo, which noticed an increase number of apps targeting territories that currently do not support paid apps. This includes 12 territories, namely: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, Hong Kong, Israel, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Singapore, and South Africa. We also know that Google is already testing the feasibility of a paid apps market in India.

Assuming that this is true, we can now see a drastic increase in the proportion of paid apps available in the market, which can also be good for Android app developers in general because this means they are going to get exposed to more potential buyers. Paid app support has been one big hurdle to jump over for Android and we're all hoping that it finally jumps over it very soon. We can also expect a wild decrease in the absurd proportion of free apps available in the market.

Now if I could start building my very own Android app development company, then I could probably establish myself and get a lot of income when the market opens fully.
