Equally important as the backend of any web application is the front-end, or the user interface (UI), obviously because this is the interface that the user will utilize in order to communicate with the system. Without proper UI design, you're just going to confuse your web app's users, so you might as well close it down.
You can always edit your UI code manually and design it manually, but that eats up a lot of time and resources, not to mention that it is very prone to errors, especially when it concerns cross-platform rendering. That's why we have a variety of tools that we can use in order to speed up the UI design and coding process. One of them is The Dojo Toolkit. Dojo Toolkit is basically a module JavaScript library used in order to speed up the process of creating the UI of cross-platform Java/Ajax-based websites. It is dual-licensed under the BSD license and the Academic Free license. One of my team mates for this web application that we are creating is concentrating on UI design using Dojo. Dojo is comprised of different widget components, comprising of Java code, HTML markup, and CSS declarations that provide cross-browser web-app features. This includes menus, tabs, sortable tables, animated effects, and input forms that will take you a while had you decided to create these from scratch. Dojo makes our lives easier by sharing you implementations of these components for easy app design. Dojo can be even used for Javascript-based AIR web applications. So far, my colleague is still trying to learn how creations can be generated using the tool. What I'm just sure of is that she's making great progress considering that she does not come with expertise in development. You don't have to reinvent the wheel when the wheel is already around.
