Survey Revealed Americans Obsessed With Facebook

Although Facebook have made it to the news headlines for the past few months now because of their increasing privacy issues, the vast influence of the popular social networking site remained relatively unharmed, at least for now.

As a matter of fact, its influence steadily grows by the day. In a recent survey by Lightspeed Research for Oxygen Media, an arm of NBC Universal, the number of self-proclaimed "Facebook addicts" increased.

The Americans are particularly Facebook's most extreme user. And by that, I mean to say they will check their Facebook accounts first thing in the morning upon waking up, even before washing their faces or fixing their bed. Some can't even wait till morning and will wake up in the middle of the night to check for new updates and new messages.

But these people not only camp on Facebook to chat with friends and view photos of other people. Almost 50% of the individuals surveyed admitted that they find out about the latest news through Facebook.

But the issues involving Facebook and its privacy policies may soon make a big hole. For June, Facebook recorded on 340,800 new active users compared to May's 7.8 million. The huge drop is a result of the issues the site is facing.
