This early on, Goolge+ is already making waves in the social networking sphere, with the 10-million user mark breached early on, and about 1 billion items shared on the feeds of the users. This may just be a case of early enchantment for users who are just glad to try out something new, but the fact remains that it was a laudable feat.

That is actually what I do not understand. Aside from Circles, Google Plus has not put down anything to the table that will force users to transfer from Facebook. The social networking market is already saturated. The general rule trend now if a social networking site is going to excel, it has to get users from other major social networking sites. This was the situation when Facebook gained users while MySpace was forced to shrink at the side.

The only exception to this is if a social network can establish a niche that has not been much explored yet. In the current social networking landscape, three mediums rule: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Facebook is for communication between friends and family, Twitter is used for microblogging and sharing of news events, while LinkedIn is a social networking tool for professional purposes. Each of these, as already mentioned, have their specific uses and niche, and there seems no room left for Google Plus, which has not carved out its own niche yet. This was the same view echoed by LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner.

There's one possible weakness that Google Plus can exploit, though. I don't think the social platform can co-exist with Facebook, but it appears that the latter has many dissatisfied customers owing to user privacy issues. If Google Plus can introduce more features (Circles is already a good start) that will allow user privacy to be more manageable, Google Plus can just siphon off Facebook users who are willing to migrate anytime.
