For many years, my internet start-up page never changed - it's always been Google. That minimalist look, that uncluttered effect really got me. Another reason is that Google's homepage is probably the fastest loading webpage, and no one wants to have a slow loader for a homepage.

But more recently, there have been a shift in the trend. A lot of users changed their homepages from the minimalist Google to the blue and white colored Facebook.

With hundreds of millions of users worldwide, Facebook have become the de facto face of the internet as it starts up.

In a lot of my friends' home, their homepages are all Facebook. In internet cafes, Facebook greets you as you click on that Mozilla Firefox icon from the desktop.

Facebook, with its partnershop with Microsoft's Bing, also takes on the job of Google. With Bing, Facebook can also be used as a search engine.

Studies also revealed that the time users spent on Google has decreased. People used to stay with Google for longer hours searching, but nowadays netizens tend to stay for long with Facebook because they can do multiple things in a single site like chatting with friends, play game, and yes, searching the web.
