Should You Be Crazy About PageRank?

Just how obsessed are you with PageRank? As we all know, PageRank is Google's way to determine the number and the quality of the links that point to your website. It is one of the oldest algorithms developed by Google in order to analyze your website's importance as compared to the World Wide Web.

 

But there's no reason to get obsessed about this algorithm. Sometimes I just find it funny that whenever people ask links from people, they make sure that these linking sites also have very high PageRank scores. Some even go as far as paying this sites for a post that links to them, which is funny because one link is just one link. It does not really change the world.

In truth, PageRank covers only one of the (probably) few hundred factors that the search giant considers whenever it ranks websites for specific keywords. PageRank may be a factor that could affect the web ranking of your links, but it is not end all of web rankings. PageRank does not consider the age of your website, your backlinks, and even the content.

Though websites with a higher PageRank can, no doubt, tend to get higher in search rankings for keywords related to their SEO strategy, it is still not impossible for websites with a lower PageRank to get on top of these rankings if they do well in the other categories.

Another way by which Google judges the quality of the links is through the TrustRank algorithm. It is basically similar to PageRank except that it only attributes certain websites as source of trust. If any of these trusted websites put a link pointing to your own, then your TrustRank is assumed to go higher.

In summary, there's really no point getting crazy about one algorithm? While you should strive to get a high PageRank, you should also strive to do well in other categories, too. For one, you should try to have as much quality content as possible.
