I confess. I don't know how to program in PHP.

Having spent most of my college years developing applications using Java (plus a host of other programming languages such as C, Lisp, and Fortran), I hardly spent any time understanding how PHP works. The only time I had any experience in web programming was later on in college, when I used Ruby on Rails. Otherwise, it's all standalone development for me.

It is perplexing that as a developer, I actually don't know anything about that single programming language that has become very popular among web developers. While my peers have managed to develop a lot of dynamic web pages using the language, I was stuck playing around with Java web programming and JSPs in order to create the said applications. I did have some experience with PHP, but it was mainly wrapped in a mini-framework called the Smarty templating engine.

It's a waste of time to cry over the time wasted. What I could only do is to try my best and study how PHP works. Right now, although I actually applied for a position involving Java development, I was given a small task that concerns tweaking the queries and other base codes developed for a small PHP application. It's daunting to imagine that I am already given a considerably sized project early on in my PHP experience, but I am confident that I will be able to find out how everything works eventually.

I apologize if this post did not yield any valuable PHP knowledge at all. To those who are looking forward to a great tutorial, I am happy to tell you that we are in the same page right now. Hopefully in a few weeks' time, I will be able to share some valuable PHP development knowledge with you.

For those who are looking for tutorials, right now I'm trying to check if this one would give me any help at all.
