Every market has its saturation limit. In the Web, where things just go by very fast, different online sectors get saturated immediately as well. Think of how competitive search engines are a decade ago and notice how impossible it is to beat Google at its forte. Think of eBay and a host of a lot of auction sites before. Now, eBay is the only major auction website out there not necessarily because it's the best, but because it managed to be the first site to get many users such that other users tend to see the value in it.
In today's time, it's nearly impossible to get a significant portion of the social networking space because of the dominance of Facebook, which around half a billion people uses. It got its edge over then-leading MySpace through its clean layout and interesting applications. Note that during the time of MySpace, there was intense competition in this field. Now it's practically Facebook all over. It's not really surprise why, despite the seeming difficulty of gaining traction in social networking, a lot of companies still aspire to enter it. For one, there's a lot of money going inside Facebook's coffers because of the marketing campaigns of various companies that utilize Facebook. The social networking site has become an integral component of a company's online campaign, using ads, custom applications, or a combination of both. And so even Google wants to have its own social networking site made from scratch. Much news has been made out of this potential move by the Big G, but majority of the people are skeptical about it because of Google's seeming weakness in the social networking space. There's also the issue of market saturation as mentioned earlier. Everything is still not lost, though. All watches are winnable as long as the people involved are willing to make a solution. According to one article from TechCrunch, Google could probably hook up with some Internet personalities and who can get a large amount of traffic going to your website. Interestingly, some of the names that came up were Lady Gaga and Justn Bieber. You can talk about...
