Webmaster and SEOFacebook Wants To Become A Social Platform
This week, Facebook announced a line of new, yet complicated features. With these updates, CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed that he wants to take Facebook into a new path, from a simple social application to becoming a complete social platform.
In his words, the "difference between building a social application and building a social platform is when you're building an application you're building it for one use case." On the other hand, a social platform is something that can handle almost everything. First of the new features Facebook rolled out over the week is the new grouping system. The grouping is now more focused on family members, close friends and colleagues. Facebook wants to emphasize that those wanting to group themselves for a cause, or for a celebrity, they can use the Facebook Events and Fanpages. The new group system is locked on "invite only" mode, and it means you have to be invited to become part of the group. Currently, members are limited to just 250. Another new feature Facebook revealed is the "Download Your Information". Like its name, it means you can download your information in a .zip file. The file will include your profile details, photos, videos and even your wall posts, comments, friend list and others. You can store the file in your hard drive, and is only accessible with Facebook-alligned log-in and password details, email address verification and a captcha. Another feature unveiled is the third-party application dashboard, giving you full control which third party application is connected to your account, and what info these applications gather from you, making it easy for you to sort them out.
