It's still far from happening, but the trend we are seeing now all leads to netbooks getting outsold by tablets. The market demand for the iPad alone is a big proof that Apple successfully put the tablet craze in the mind of people, even for the fact that not all wanted to have a tablet during the iPad's incubation days.
The trick is that Apple was successful in making people want the iPad, not because they need it. And although Steve Jobs doesn't want the iPad being labeled a PC, market analysts are still considering it to be one, and was recently included in a research project involving PC market shares in the future. "The US Consumer PC Market in 2015", a project by the Forrester Research, sees the market of PCs increasing by 2015. The biggest market share will be snatched by notebooks with 42% market share, followed by tablets at 23%, desktops at 18% and netbooks at 17%. Tablets will outsell netbooks simply because people wants to have a more portable device that has the power for cloud storage. The market for tablets will also increase when the likes of HP, Dell and Microsoft come up with their own new versions. As a matter of fact, these three companies have already released their tablets but the Apple iPad is tough and has not been toppled at the top since it was first released.
