Thank author of this post/comment

It started out as a tutorial for his younger cousin who was having a hard time with her 7th grade math classes. The tutorial was done remotely after Khan's work. When his cousin showed great improvements with her grades, friends and other members of the family wanted to be in his tutorial class as well.

This is when Khan decided to record the lessons and put them up on YouTube. And because the video uploading site is accessible almost anywhere in the world, his online video lessons took an audience far greater than just his friends and relatives.

The result was so overwhelming that random people started sending him messages of gratitude, most of them posted publicly on the video comments. Some of those comments, like 'Hey, I got an A on my algebra exam because of that video’ or ‘I’m not going to drop out of this high school because of this video,’ fueled Khan's will to do more lessons online.

He quit his job as a financial trader and devoted his full time making videos online. It was never a clear path at first, not knowing where to get money to support his family.

But Khan's efforts paid off. Bill Gates, one of the greatest billionaires of our time, is proudly one of his students online, browsing Khan's videos and even showing them to his kids.

Today, Khan has already established the Khan Academy, and gets funding from Bill Gatess and the Google Foundation. His videos garner thousands of views a day. With this, Khan hopes to spread hope that learning math is fun and easier when done online, away from the pressures of a school environment and the watchful eyes of teachers.
