Webmaster and SEOUser Interface Design and Marketing
If you're a web designer making your own user interface for your own website, then that's good for you. At least you can use all the creativity that you have in order to create your website. If you work for a corporate institution, however, I'm afraid to say that there's not much room for creativity right there.
While it is us, the website designer, who actually implements the design wanted by the owners of the site, it will always be the owners of the website and, consequently, the marketing department, who decides what gets put up on the website, though it may be very boring sometimes, in your opinion. User interface design will always go hand-in-hand with marketing. With the number of people going to the Internet growing day after day, the exposure of corporate websites increases, making these websites an important component of a company's marketing campaign. Just like how strict these companies are with their logos and everything on physical promotional material, you can expect them to be equally aggressive with their cyber material. If there's anything good that you can take out of this, it's that corporations tend to pay more for website design, assuming that they go to freelancers for this kind of work anyway. Most of the time, they have in-house website designers that shall do the work for them. That completely defeats the purpose of becoming a freelance web designer in the first place. But if it's the ability to express yourself that you want to have when working with a new web design, then working with corporations is not for you. Better work with individual clients instead. There may be less money here, but you will have all the flexibility that you want. Working with individual clients is a two-way creative process, compared to corporate clients wherein you are just being fed with the design specifications and where your only job is to create the actual codes.
