As a long-time user of Firefox, I make it sure that I always get the latest updates from Mozilla. Sure enough, upon learning about the release of Mozilla Firefox 4.0, I downloaded it already and replaced my old Firefox 3 browser. The most obvious difference between the two browsers is the user interface, and I must say that I am not too enthusiastic about it. I can't just put my finger as to what is wrong with the interface, though I must commend the fact that there is now a slightly larger space for the main browser pane.

Firefox 4 is the fastest Firefox browser to date, and the Mozilla guys claim that it is about two to six times faster than its previous releases. If Google Chrome's main selling point back then is its speed, then there is not much difference between the latest releases of the two browsers today.

Another main feature introduced in Firefox 4 is Firefox Sync, an application that allows you to store your Firefox settings in Mozilla's secure servers and then retrieve them later on using another Firefox browser. It used to be just a Firefox add-on, but now it is introduced in the application as a default feature. The new Add-ons Manager now follows a tab-based format, giving you more space to look for something to add in Mozilla the community's collection of 200,000 add-ons. To this day, this is the single most important reason why I am still sticking it out for Mozilla Firefox.

Other performance features include the browser's handling of crashes from Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime, and Microsoft Silverlight applications. When apps created using these vendors happen, you can simply refresh your webpage and everything will work again. This is in contrast with Firefox 3, wherein the entire browser freezes and crashes when a Flash app (for example) crashes.
