Webmaster and SEOAre You Having A Creative Block?
If writers have a writing block, web designers also have a designers' block. That is the problem with industries like ours that need creativity in order to excel. While the pay may be good as the industry is now giving more importance to creativity than ever, once we lose the creativity for a while, we also lose a lot of opportunities to generate income.
Last week was a perfect example of creativity block for me. I just couldn't string enough images to match whatever it is that my clients would ask of me. If you feel that you are stuck in the rut, there are many things that you can try out to get unstuck, but the most effective would be to plug yourself out of the computer and do something unrelated to your web design work even for a while. You can do practically anything that you want as long as it does not directly remind you of your web design task. You can just go to the piano and hit some keys, eat a lot of food outside, read a book, or do some light traveling without your laptop in tow. The key here is to just let your mind recover from the overuse for your tasks that require a lot of creativity. When your mind gets too burned out with creating things, it suddenly stops and you feel like you're having a creative block. Making new experiences and trying out things that are not in your usual habits are a good way to get some creativity back. For example, reading an elegantly designed cookbook may actually help you think of a new design to create for your website. The same is actually true for any other creative process out there. I usually have phases in my writing career when I feel the most creative, and phases when I really feel stuck. When this happens, I just sleep all day and eat out. Maybe then some magical idea would come out. What I just do is to always have a journal around me to catch any creative words that I could suddenly come out with. Just make sure that you return to your creative phase just in time to meet the deadlines you set with your clients. Missing out is a no-no, unfortunately. You can talk about...
