OK, so Wordpress used to be a content management system originally developed for personal blogs and other similar websites whose content are mainly composed of essay posts that are added on overtime. Instead of managing your own database, your Apache installations, and the like, using Wordpress enables you to include multimedia, track entries, and install plugins without worrying much about the associated technologies beneath it.

The large community support for the CMS also allowed it to touch base with more and more people who are not otherwise well-versed with using it. It is so popular, in fact, that sometimes even businesses use it for their own website.

But wait, is this even proper? Of course it is. While Wordpress is originally developed for creating blogs, the platform is so powerful that you can actually not use the blog function and still use it to create a website. Instead of blog posts that have timestamps unto them, you can use Wordpress to be a repository of pages that are contained in your site.

Why should you opt to use this instead of a full-fledged website if your website is just for a small business? As I've already mentioned, first of all, it's easy to maintain. For small businesses that does not have the resources to hire someone to maintain a site, Wordpress allows you to update pages of your website with just a few clicks.

In addition to that, Wordpress is also SEO-friendly and web-compliant, meaning, it already follows set standards when it comes to building a site. And if you are not happy with the default functionality of your Wordpress installation, you can always choose to install plug-ins developed by third parties in order to extend the capabilities of your site. For example, you can install a plugin that lets you track the number of visitors for a specific page (although you can use tools like Google Analytics for this).

All in all, if you don't have enough resources like big corporations do, making your presence felt online through Wordpress is a cost-effective way to do just that.
