YouTube Expands Movie Rental and Original Content

Just a few weeks ago, YouTube's movie rentals only included a little more than 3,000 titles from a handful of production outfits. But today Google, the parent company of YouTube, that they will be adding 3,000 new titles, almost doubling their current movie list.

In a blog post, YouTube's Salar Kamangar said that the new titles will be coming from NBC Universal, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and a few others. "Whether it's short movie trailers, funny movie parodies or full-length blockbuster films, we encourage you to sit back and settle in to the YouTube movies experience," he added.

But the video uploading website is not only increasing its stash of movies for rentals, it also said that the company is increasing their investment on original content, sighting the success of Ryan Higa, Annoying Orange and the likes, which commands "TV-size audiences for their own brand of programming."

"In the coming year, we'll bring even more content to YouTube. Building on the success of Partner Grants and YouTube NextUp, we're providing even more resources to creators who you'll know from TV or Hollywood, and to existing YouTube partners who have already built loyal audiences on the site," Kamangar said in the blog post.
